Yesterday, Rick and Raimundo Dias drove a number of hours south to a small interior town. This Raimundo, had found out that his kid brother was in jail down there after having pulled off an armed robbery with a couple others in a grocery store (that had security cameras). This teenager is a member of our church and he has been on our hearts as we saw him going further and further from God. The boy was so glad to see his brother and his pastor (Rick) yesterday and says he is ready to come back to God. He will be staying in jail for awhile yet and we pray that he will sincerely come back to the Lord when he gets out and be able to leave his friends and girl friend and have a place to live as he straightens out his life. Other family members are only interested in what he can do for them financially.
Our Sat. morning AWANA club for kids (Gayle) and teens (Rick) is a blessing. We are grateful to God for some of our faithful church family who help us It is such a blessing to all of us personally as we see them quoting bible verses and even winning points for their team as they remember and quote verses they learned in past weeks.
A couple weeks ago I put on an "Evangelical Tea" in the dilapidated house in the New Zealand neighborhood where a lot of the church kids live. We had bought the lot with house some time ago planning to build a church building there where we can have a weekday service to reach the people in that area. A lot of our kids have parents who are not Christians. We passed out invitations and had 20 ladies come. After enjoying the different flavors of teas and other goodies, four of our church ladies who live there gave their testimonies and then I (Gayle) presented the plan of salvation using the Romans Road and also a visualized "plan of salvation". No one made a decision that day but the seed was planted and we continue to pray.
