In the mid 1970´s there was a need for us to invest in an aviation program to help us start churches in the interior and to minister in other ways. Transportation was difficult and time consuming due to bad road conditions and undependable ferryboats. So Rick got his private pilot´s license and an airplane and power plant mechanics license. In 1974 we bought a 1968 Piper Cherokee in Brazil and used it to start the work in Concordia while still pastoring the church in Castanhal. When we lived in Concordia where there was no doctor, the plane was used for our transportation as well as for flying accident victims and sick people into Belem. Many, many lives were spared through the use of the plane. We sometimes forget all the emergency flights we did but the people involved have never forgotten and continue to thank us when we meet up with them again. While living in Concordia we sold the Piper Cherokee and bought a 1977 Piper Arrow. When we moved into the capitol, Belem, aviation was no longer a viable necessity for us so the Arrow was sold.
